Each year, the WODC reports on the reconviction rate of Dutch offenders. Nearly all persons who were suspect in a penal case are included in the study. The standard measurements of the 'Recidivism Monitor' relate to four populations: adult offenders sanctioned by court of Public Prosecutor's Service (PPS), juvenile offenders sanctioned by court or PPS, ex-prisoners and former inmates of juvenile detention centres. The reconviction rates of former offenders placed under an entrustment order (tbs) are reported seperately.Uitgever / Publisher

Recidive onder justitiabelen in Nederland - Verslag over de periode 2006-2018Weijters, G.; Verweij, S.; Tollenaar, N.; Hill, J. (WODC, 2019)The focus of this report is trends in reconviction amongst the following offender groups. First, we look at adult and juvenile offenders for whom criminal proceedings were begun during the period 2006 to 2015. Adult offenders are those convicted under adult criminal law and juvenile offenders are those convicted under juvenile criminal law. Second, we examine the reconviction rates of ex-prisoners and ex-juvenile detention detainees released in the period 2006 to 2015. Finally, we present reconviction rates for offenders who have completed community service orders and those who were supervised by the probation services in the period 2006 to 2015. The following research questions are the focus of this report:What are the personal characteristics of those who between the period 2006 and 2015 received a conviction or settlement, were released from prison or a juvenile detention centre, completed community service or were supervised by the probation services? What are the reconviction rates for these groups: what proportion of each group is reconvicted and what proportion is reconvicted for a very serious offence (recidivism prevalence)? What is the average number of new criminal cases per year? After adjusting for differences in background characteristics and criminal history characteristics, for each offender group, what trends do we see in the recon-viction rates?

Recidive onder justitiabelen in Nederland - Verslag over de periode 2008-2020Verweij, S.; Tollenaar, N.; Teerlink, M.; Weijters, G. (WODC, 2021-10-11)The WODC regularly reports reconviction rates for a number of different offender groups, where reconviction refers to new offenses committed in the Netherlands that result in a conviction by the court or a settlement by the Public Prosecution Service (OM). The focus of this report is trends in reconviction rates amongst the following offender groups. First, we describe the reconviction rates of all adult and juvenile offenders against whom a criminal case was settled with a valid settlement in the period 2008 up to and including 2017. Adult offenders are defined as those who have been convicted under the adult criminal law whereas juvenile offenders are those who have been convicted under the juvenile criminal law. A new feature of this report is that it zooms in on the reconviction of a subgroup of the adult offenders, namely those who have been imposed a financial sanction by the OM or the judge. Next, we examine the reconviction statistics of persons released from an adult or a juvenile detention center from 2008 to 2017. Finally, we present the reconviction statistics of offenders who came into contact with the probation service in the period 2012 to 2017 for the purpose of carrying out community service, or who were under the supervision of the probation service for a period of time.
