Drugs in cijfers

Abstract

The Research and Documentation Centre of the Ministry of Safety and Justice (WODC) yearly asks the national police to deliver national figures about the total amounts of confiscated illicit drugs in the Netherlands, for the National Drug Monitor as well as for the reports for the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). These figures however cannot be accurately delivered. Some police units do deliver figures, others do not. Hence, there is no complete national overview.This finding motivated the WODC to investigate the background of this problem, and especially the question if there are practical ways to collect national figures. This summary offers an answer to the research questions shaping this investigation.

Het WODC vraagt jaarlijks aan de Nationale Politie om landelijke cijfers aan te leveren over de totale hoeveelheden in beslag genomen drugs in Nederland, zowel voor de Nationale Drug Monitor als voor de rapportages aan het European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) en het United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Die cijfers kunnen echter niet goed opgeleverd worden. Sommige politie-eenheden leveren wel cijfers aan, andere niet. Een volledig landelijk beeld ontbreekt daardoor. Deze constatering vormde de aanleiding om onderzoek te laten doen naar de achtergrond van dit probleem en vooral ook naar de vraag of er mogelijk praktische manieren zijn om toch tot landelijke cijfers te komen.
