Abstract

In an estimate of 10 to 30 percent of Dutch juvenile criminal cases at least one of the parents or the guardian is absent when their child is heard in court. In this study, the author map out the current situation regarding the presence of parents, investigate whether the presumed beneficial effects of obligatory presence of parents or guardian are valid, and describe the practical consequences of this new provision in terms of work processes and costs in practice.

Per 1 januari 2011 zal de verschijningsplicht voor ouders in werking treden als onderdeel van de Wet versterking positie slachtoffers. Met het huidige onderzoek wordt de huidige situatie met betrekking tot de verschijning van ouders in kaart gebracht, wordt onderzocht of de veronderstelde mechanismen achter de verplichte aanwezigheid stand houden en wordt nagegaan wat de gevolgen zullen zijn voor de uitvoeringspraktijk in termen van werkprocessen en kosten.
