Abstract
Inspired by the notion and observation that judicial policies often lack solid scientific evidence, this themed issue covers a wide range of subjects: from anti-corruption policies, punishments, and international criminal tribunals to obligatory facilities for drug addicts, police policies and measures to restrict speeding. With regard to these issues, there are three questions that constantly recur: What are the objectives of this policy? Why are the applicable means considered to contribute to the realisation of these objectives? Or: what is the underlying policy theory? Are these assumptions supported by empirical expertise?
