Handelingsperspectieven voor data-gedreven opsporing
Abstract
This research explores the possibilities for detecting criminal assets through these new, virtual money streams. To this end, various modi operandi are identified in the so-called last mile – the part of the criminal value chain where transactions with the ’end user’ take place, such as transactions of illegal narcotics or cybercrime tools. This focus ensures that a wide range of modi operandi in which virtual currencies play a role can be explored.

Dit onderzoek exploreert de mogelijkheden voor het opsporen van criminele gelden middels de nieuwe, virtuele geldstromen. Hiertoe worden verschillende modi operandi geïdentificeerd in de zogeheten last mile – het deel van de criminele waardeketen waar transacties met de ‘eindgebruiker’ plaatsvinden, zoals de afwikkeling van online handel in drugs of cybercrime gereedschap. Deze focus zorgt ervoor dat een breed palet aan modi operandi waar virtuele valuta een rol in spelen, kan worden onderzocht.
